LUNCH & LEARN SEMINARS
You’re invited to PPCC’s Lunch & Learn Series on the fourth Tuesday of every month. This is a free opportunity to learn more about the featured topics as we hope to raise awareness and improve resiliency in ourselves and our community. All Lunch and Learn seminars will run from noon to 1pm and will be conducted at PPCC’s main office at 707 Gum Rock Court in Newport News unless otherwise noted.

Choosing the Right Size Band-Aid for That Injury
It doesn’t take much to convince people that our loved ones, neighbors, friends, and children will experience a wide range of hurts. Sometimes we downplay our concerns, saying things like:
“I get a little down this time of year.”
“I’ve always been a worrier.”
“Time heals all wounds.”
“That’s just the way he is.”
“I just can’t seem to get over it.”
“She has always been a little off.”
Other times we give these hurts names, like trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, or OCD. And many of us may have a First-Aid Kit of people and places we turn to for help. It is our hope you do have such a kit, and will consider updating it, ensuring you are prepared to find the help most needed when life hurts. This seminar will be presented by Rev. Brent Seusy, M.Div, MHRD/OD, L.C.S.W., Pastoral Counselor and Director of Training at PPCC.
PARENTING WORKSHOP
Thursday, May 21
5:30 – 7:00 pm at our offices
A workshop for parents with children of all ages
Based on the work of John and Julie Gottman, this Connecting with Our Children workshop will introduce parents to “emotion coaching,” which Gottman refers to as the “heart of parenting.” Led by Rev. Becky Glass, LMFT and Executive Director, this workshop is free, but registration is required. Topics of discussion include:
- learning how to recognize, respond to, and validate what your child is feeling
- discovering ways to express understanding and empathy
- learning to set limits and problem solve with your children
CLERGY CONNECTIONS
